Unwind Series
The Unwind series by Neal Shusterman is... disturbing. It consists of five books published from 2007 to 2014. I haven't read them all to be honest, but when I was in about 2nd grade I read Unwind and was scarred. While this was the case, the topic of the books is crazy to think about, and it showed me how creatively messed up one can be in writing. I guess it was eye-opening, and that's why this is included.
The scarring premise of the series is that it's the future in the United States, and parents can decide to "unwind" their kids in their teens. Unwinding is essentially the harvesting of organs, resulting in the teen dying, but they promote this by saying that the child lives on through their organs all being used. Yeah, messed up.
